Government has signed an on-lending and grant agreement with the Luapula Water and Sewarage Company amounting to $40 Million for water and sanitation programs in Kawambwa, Mansa, Mwense, and Samfya.

According to a statement issued by Ministry of Finance spokesperson Chileshe Kandeta today, the agreement was signed by Finance Minister Felix Mutati and Luapula Water & Sewarage Company Managing Director Kenneth Chense.

“The agreement was signed during the official opening of the Luapula Expo & Investment Conference in Mansa today. Of the amount signed US$ 33.5 Million has been on-lent from the government to the Luapula Water and Sewarage Company while a further US$ 6.7 million has been given as a grant,” stated Kandeta,

“The signing of the on-lending and grant agreements signifies the fulfillment of the promise made by the Government tackle water and sanitation challenges on Luapula Province, specifically, Mansa, Mwense, Samfya and Kawambwa. The principal loan was obtained by the Government from the African Development Bank under the Intergrated Small Towns Water and Sanitation Program.”
