A witchdoctor and a 28-year-old man have appeared in the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court for allegedly murdering a 42-year-old woman.

According to a police statement issued in July, this year, 42-year-old Clare Namutenda’s husband, a Zambia National Service (ZNS) Colonel Maybin Mundengo, reported to Chilenje Police Station that his wife went missing after informing him that she was going to attend night prayers at unknown Church.

This is in a matter in which Abu Hussen Ibrahim Phiri, a 29-year-old witchdoctor of 10 Miles and Saviour Daka, a 30-year-old farmer of eight Miles, are charged with murder.

Particulars of the offence are that on July 12, this year in Lusaka, Phiri and Daka whilst acting together murdered Clare Namutenda.

The matter came up before Lusaka Magistrate Martha Miti for explanation of the charge, Thursday.

After the charge was explained to them, the suspects said they understood it.

At this point, magistrate Miti informed the two that they would continue appearing before her for mention awaiting instructions from Director of Public Prosecutions to commit them to the High Court for trial.

The matter comes up on August 20 this year, for mention.
