Lands Minister Jean Kapata has with suspended the Kabwe Municipal Council and the Ndola City Council for failure to to adhere to the guidelines and procedures in the administration of land.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka yesterday, Kapata said her Ministry would not sit idle and watch councils continue disregarding the guidelines in the administration of land.

“My Ministry being the principal institution in the administration and management of land in this country, I will not sit idle and let councils continue disregarding the guidelines in the administration of land. In this regard and in accordance with the administrative circular number 1 of 1985, I am suspending the agency of Kabwe municipal council and Ndola city council with immediate effect for failure to adhere to the guidelines and procedures in the administration of land,” Kapata said.

And Kapata said that the land administration of the two suspended councils would with immediate effect be handled by the provincial land offices until sanity returned at the councils.

This means that the local authorities will no longer advertise, sell, demarcate or receive money for plots.
