Police in Lusaka have arrested a suspected criminal identified as Lifweka Meke aged 27 years, and are looking for four others, for allegedly attacking a security guard at Spot Bar in Hellen Kaunda.

Police Spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katongo in a statement disclosed that the suspect together with four others yesterday around 02:45 hours at the named place yesterday attacked the security guard only identified as Innocent aged between 30 and 36 years old.

“The five criminals were spotted by Police Officers from Kalingalinga Police Post who were patrolling. After seeing the officers, the criminals ran away and officers who gave chase managed to apprehend one suspect. When the officers went back to the scene they found the guard lying in a pool of blood on top of a pool table while his face was totally covered with blood,” Mwaata said.

“Police officers further discovered that two Shops in the same area were broken into but could not ascertain the value of properly stolen as the owners of the shops had not yet been traced. The guard was at the time unable to speak due injuries. He sustained a swollen face and a cut on the left ear and he is admitted to UTH.”

Mwaata said the apprehended suspect who is a resident of Lusaka’s Hellen Kaunda is detained in police custody.

Meanwhile Mwaata has disclosed a three years old female juvenile was yesterday burnt to death in Southern province after a grass thatched house in which she was sleeping was set on fire by unknown people.

She said the incident happened around 05:00 hours at Kakololo, in Itezhi-Tezhi district while the body of the deceased was deposited in the Namwala Hospital Mortuary
