Minister of Defense Davies Chama says government is tirelessly investing in the aviation industry in the country so as to ensure a safe air space.

Speaking when he officiated at this year’s Zambia Air Force (ZAF) open day and aviation expo at City Airport on October 14, 2017, Chama said government attached great importance to having a professional and efficient defense force.

“As you may be aware, the government of the Republic of Zambia is tirelessly investing in the aviation industry in Zambia. To a great extent, the Zambia Air Force will have a big role to play in this effect by ensuring the existence of a safe Zambian sky,” Chama said.

Chama urged ZAF personnel to remain vigilant and guard their assets jealously.

“I therefore urge all ZAF personnel to always remain vigilant and guard their assets jealously. You should remember that this equipment was acquired at the expense of many other equally important demands,” said Chama.

Chama pledged to support all the services under his ministry in order to attain operational efficiency and a state of combat readiness.

And ZAF commander Lieutenant General Eric Chimese said the event would help the aviation industry in Zambia reach a level where it was capable of hosting a full-fledged international air shows to attract guests from all over the world.

“Today is a special day for the ZAF. Our hope, honorable minister and invited guests, is for us in the aviation industry in Zambia to quickly get to a level where we will be capable of hosting a full-fledged international air show in the country in order to attract guest from all over the continent and the entire world,” he said.

He thanked the Zimbabwean government for taking part in the ZAF open day.

“May I take this opportunity to thank the government of Zimbabwe for accepting our invitation to be the first ever sister and allied country to take part in this open day and aviation expo, we thank you very much,” said Lieut Gen Chimese.
