TIZ president Rueben Lifuka has been elevated to the position of vice-chairperson for the global International Board of the Transparency International Movement after an election held on October 15, 2017 in Germany.

In a congratulatory statement yesterday, TIZ executive director Wesley Chibamba expressed confidence that the appointment of Lifuka as vice-chairperson for the entire TIZ movement would have good implications on the fight against corruption in Zambia.

“It is with a sense of great pride and honour that Transparency International Zambia wishes to congratulate its Chapter President Mr Rueben Lifuka for being elected to the position of Vice Chairperson on the International Board for the entire Transparency International Movement. Mr Lifuka became vice-chairperson on the 15th of October 2017 at the elective Annual Membership Meeting (AMM) in Berlin, Germany,” Chibamba stated.

Chibamba also noted that the appointment of Lifuka to his new position put Zambia’s governance and fight against corruption on a global spotlight.

“Transparency International held its elections for the International board for the global
movement after the expiry of a three year mandate of its previous board, as is customary and consistent with the movement’s good corporate governance values. This development has very good implications to the fight against corruption in Zambia. It puts a global spotlight on Zambia‘s governance and fight against corruption, considering that the vice chair of the global movement hails from there,” he stated.

Chibamba congratulated Lifuka with all the deserved emphasis and called on Zambians to share and feel proud of Lifuka and TIZ’s achievement as their own.

“Every well-meaning Zambian should be filled with a sense of pride and joy for the milestone that Mr Lifuka and indeed the entire TIZ Chapter has achieved. The Transparency International movement has exhibited the same confidence that TIZ exhibited in the leadership of Mr Lifuka. This is indeed a historical moment for Transparency International Zambia. The fight against corruption in Zambia just got bolder with a global insignia. Congratulations TI Zambia Chapter President!” stated Chibamba.
