Police spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katongo has revealed that the Zambia Police Service received 57,061 applications for 1,000 jobs countrywide.

In a statement today, Katongo stated that Lusaka received the highest number of applications.

“The Zambia Police Service received 57, 601 applications across the country in the recruitment exercise which was recently advertised for 1,000 Police Constable Positions. Lusaka received 10,000 applications, Copperbelt had 9,000, Southern had 6,000, North western Province, 5,278, Western Province had 5,113, Muchinga Province had 5,020, Eastern Province had 4,800, Northern Province had 4,605, Luapula Province had 4,006 while Central Province had 3,779,” Katongo stated.

“All the shortlisted candidates should check for their names at Provincial Centers and are expected to undergo physical tests on 31st July, 2018 and those that will make it will be expected to write an aptitude test on 1st August, 2018 from respective Provinces.”

And Katongo stated that Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja was pleased that the just ended elections were peaceful.

“The Inspector General of Police, Mr Kakoma Kanganja has thanked all Political leaders and general members of the public for observing peace during the just ended elections which were held in selected parts of the Country. Mr Kanganja said the general conduct by all Political players during campaigns through to the poll day was a clear indication that it was possible for the country to have clean, mature and violence free elections,” stated Katongo.

“Mr Kanganja said that the accomplishment of a peaceful electoral process was as a result of concerted efforts towards peace and commitment exhibited by all electoral stakeholders in the electoral process especially political leaders who played a pivotal role in denouncing violence.
He has further called on everyone to remain peaceful even during this post election period and has called on those celebrating their victories to do so in a manner devoid of provocation.
He has also commended all Police Officers who took part in policing the elections for their dedication to work and has urged them to continue exhibiting patriotism through provision of service to the nation with diligence, integrity and fairness.”
