Thousands of University of Zambia students have turned up to mourn Vespers Shimuzhila, using the opportunity to also protest against police brutality.

Clad in black, the students marched from the Great East Main campus to an SDA church along Katimamulilo Road, where Shimuzhila’s requiem mass is being held, whilst others proceeded to the Mandahill footbridge where they sat on the road and mourned their colleague.

The massive march has since taken social media by storm as netizens share the unbelievable pictorial scenes of protesters practically putting business in the part of Lusaka on a stand still.

No police have been spotted attempting to stop the protesters and motorists have opted to use alternative routes.

Vespers died of suffocation on Thursday night as police officers fired teargas canisters in the students hostels, following a protest earlier.
