Seventy four people in Kitwe’s Musonda township have been admitted to Kitwe Teaching Hospital after suspected food poisoning.

The 74 where admitted on Monday night after attending a party.

Kitwe Teaching Hospital Public Relations Officer Phoebe Chileya confirmed in an interview.

Chileya said of the 74 patients, eight where minors below the age of five, 40 between the ages of 6 to 14 years, while the 26 were between 15 years and above.

She said most of the patients were stable and were in the process of being discharged from hospital while four were still admitted for further investigations.

“The patients consumed food that was contaminated with toxins that are harmful for the body. We are hopeful that the four that are still in hospital will soon be discharged to join their families,” Chileya said.
