Police in Lusaka have launched a manhunt for a 52-year-old man of Kabanana Compound for murdering his 41-year-old wife.

According to a statement issued by police spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katongo, Wednesday, Watson Ngambi killed his wife, Agness Chabala Ngambi, on April 19, 2019 between 22:00 hours and 23:00 hours in Kabanana Compound.

“The matter was reported on 03rd July, 2019 at 12:00 hours at Chipwalo Police Post by the suspect’s relative who reported that he received a call from his young brother Watson Ngambi (suspect) who told him that he killed his wife and that he was being bothered by the relatives to his wife on the whereabouts of his wife and that the body of the deceased was still in his house. Officers followed up the report and forced open the door to the house which was found locked and after a search, they found the body of the deceased in the bedroom under the bed wrapped in a black polythene bag,” Katongo stated.

“Physical inspection on the body revealed that the body was half naked with a broken left leg and was in a decomposed state. A machete and an axe stained with blood were found at the scene and are suspected to have been used in the act.”

She stated that Ngambi had been lying to his wife’s relatives that she had travelled.

“The suspect was also reported to have been lying to the victim’s relatives that his wife had travelled to Mununga. The scene has been sealed as Police are making arrangements for postmortem to be conducted. The suspect is on the run and a manhunt has been launched. Members of the public with information about the whereabouts of the suspect should report to any nearest police,” stated Katongo.
