THE Kabwe Magistrates’ Court has convicted and sentenced Bowman Lusambo and three others to eight months imprisonment with hard labour for unlawful assembly. Kabwe Resident Magistrate Gloria Chipasha, however, suspended the sentence for 12 months. This means that Lusambo and the others will not go to prison for this particular case. However, if any of the convicted persons commit another crime within that 12-month period, the eight-month jail sentence can then be imposed against the offenders. Lusambo was charged alongside Billy Sichamba, Saidi Chibwana, Matthews Changwe and Martin Simfukwe with the offence of unlawful assembly, contrary to Section 74(1) as read with Section 75 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
