THE Mufulira Magistrates’ Court has convicted and sentenced renowned pharmacist Jerome Kanyika to a fine of K150,000 in a case where he was charged with importation of medicines without an import permit. In default of the fine, Kanyika was to serve five months imprisonment with hard labour. In January last year, police in Mufulira arrested Kanyika as he was trying to bring in a truckload of drugs from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He was eventually charged with one count of Importation of Medicines without an Import Permit Contrary to Section 35 of the Medicines and Allied Substances Act No. 3 of 2013 of the Laws of Zambia.
