WE agree with Inspector General of Police Graphael Musamba that police are not lawfully obliged to release suspects from custody until they satisfy the conditions of police bond. It is also true that the issuance of police bond is not an automatic entitlement to everyone who is arrested for a bailable offence. Indeed, people should not condemn the police or complain about prolonged detentions without appreciating the circumstances, as IG Musamba puts it. IG Graphael Musamba: “The bond is not automatic.
