FORMER president Edgar Lungu’s spokesperson, Amos Chanda, has again asked the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court to release his passport so that he can travel to India for medical treatment. In May, Magistrate Ireen Wishimanga convicted and sentenced Chanda to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour for theft of a court document. Additionally, Chanda was fined K5,000 for destroying evidence, with a default penalty of three months imprisonment. In a separate case, Chanda, along with his wife and sister-in-law, was convicted of obstructing Anti-Corruption Commission officers and using insulting language. This resulted in a seven-month sentence and a fine of K135 each. Magistrate Dominic Makalicha later granted them bail of K40,000 each, pending their appeal.
