MINISTER of Health Dr Elijah Muchima is clearly uncomfortable with the work that our newspaper is doing in keeping his government and his ministry in check. This week, he publicly scolded this newspaper for publishing the findings of the ZAMMSA forensic audit, accusing us of pre-empting investigations and giving “clever thieves” a chance to destroy evidence. Laughable! With all due respect, Honourable Minister, may you run the Ministry of Health and ZAMMSA. We, the journalists, will run the newsrooms. It is not your job to decide when and what the media should publish. And it is certainly not your job to dictate how citizens should access public-interest information.
