WHILE the anger of the Chingola youths may be understandable, their actions are inexcusable. Violence of whatever form must never be tolerated. Countries that have fallen into civil war often started with small, disproportionate displays of displeasure. What began as public frustration evolved into lawlessness, and before long, into chaos. Zambia must not walk that path. Since the incident in Chingola, many netizens have taken to social media to celebrate what they call “the fearlessness” of the Copperbelt youths. Memes, slogans, and banter have been circulating, mocking the President’s escape. But those who are celebrating this incident are playing with fire.
