POLICE in Eastern Province have arrested NRPUP Chimaliro Ward Councillor Klint Mwale and 23 other individuals for illegally buying fuel in Lundazi which they intended to resell in Malawi. Malawi has been experiencing a countrywide fuel shortage. In an interview, Eastern Province Police Commissioner Robertson Mweemba, who confirmed the arrests, said 19 of the 23 other suspects were Malawian nationals. He added that over 5,000 litres of fuel had been confiscated. “The Malawians [arrested in Lundazi] are 13, the councillor is the one who is making it 14. Then here in Chipata, 10 were involved.
