THE Kwacha has continued on an upward trajectory and has gained strength against major convertible currencies. By close of business yesterday at 15:30 hours, the Bank of Zambia exchange rates indicated that the Dollar was buying at K20.02 and was selling at K20.07. Meanwhile, according to Absa the Dollar had already crossed the K19 threshold and was buying at K19.89 and selling at K20.27. In other bureaus the Kwacha was also trading at K19.80. Economist Bright Chizonde has attributed Kwacha appreciation to increased supply of foreign currency by the mining sector and increased reserves, on account of the IMF programme. And Chizonde says the Kwacha is likely to continue appreciating given that there was an expectation of another IMF programme...
