FORMER commerce minister Bob Sichinga is calling for the implementation of a law for local value addition, saying the country’s manufacturing industry has underperformed due to a lack of value addition. In an interview, Monday, Sichinga lamented the lack of a deliberate policy on value addition. “We used to assemble vehicles in Livingstone, we used to assemble Land Rovers in Ndola, we used to have industries like the pineapple industries in Mwinilunga, we used to produce batteries in Mansa. Mulungushi Textiles was founded to take advantage of the raw materials that we were producing in order to add value. That has not been done.
