THE Bank of Zambia has disclosed that it has withdrawn 95 percent of the old banknotes from circulation as of February 28, 2026. In a statement, Tuesday, BoZ Assistant Director of Communications Besnat Mwanza said the rollout of the new notes had been successful. The Bank of Zambia launched new notes called the “Heritage Series” on March 31, 2025. Since then, they have circulated alongside the old series. The one-year transition window was designed to ensure a seamless phase-out of the old currency without disrupting daily commerce.
