THE Bank of Zambia (BoZ) has confirmed that coins will continue to be legal tender even after old banknotes cease to be valid on March 31, 2026. In a statement, Wednesday, BoZ Assistant Director of Communications Besnat Mwanza disclosed that as of March 11, 2026, the Bank of Zambia had successfully withdrawn approximately 95.2 percent of the old currency notes from circulation. She said the bank had also received reports of businesses refusing old banknotes and clarified that the notes would remain valid until March 31. “The K1, 50 Ngwee, 10 Ngwee and 5 Ngwee coins will remain legal tender.
