THE Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has reviewed the joint IMF-World Bank Debt Sustainability Framework for Low-Income Countries (LIC-DSF). According to the IMF, the revised framework will allow countries to better assess how much fiscal space might be available to support needed investment in development and climate adaptation efforts while containing debt vulnerabilities. The new framework is expected to become operational in the second half of 2027, while the IMF and World Bank prepare implementation guidelines and train country authorities. The review, conducted on September 9, 2026, comes almost a decade after the last review in 2017.
