THE Ministry of Finance has disclosed that Zambia’s external debt stock reduced by five percent to US$15.36 billion as of June 2026, from US$16.15 billion recorded at the end of December 2025. The ministry further says the Kwacha appreciated by 24.5 percent to an average of K18.54 per US dollar in the second quarter of 2026, compared to an average of K24.55 per US dollar during the corresponding period in 2025. Meanwhile, the ministry says Zambia needs to record economic growth of above six percent to keep pace with its annual population growth of 3.4 percent and reduce poverty from the current 60 percent to below 20 percent by 2030.
