ECONOMIC and Equity Party (EEP) leader Chilufya Tayali has appeared in the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court and pleaded not guilty to assaulting a police officer. And magistrate Irene Phiri has granted Tayali, of Roma Township in Lusaka, a K5000 cash bail, pending hearing and determination of the matter. Tayali, who is represented by Lusaka lawyer Mwansa Chambaila, told the court after the charge was read out to him that he understood it, but he was not guilty. He is charged with one count of assault on a police officer contrary to section 250 (b) of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
