THE Mongu High Court has sentenced former president Edgar Lungu’s barber Shebby Chilekwa to 25 years imprisonment with hard labour for the murder of Lawrence Banda. Chilekwa has, however, appealed to the Court of Appeal against both the conviction and sentence, arguing that the trial court erred in law and fact when he convicted him of murder in the absence of anyone identifying the body of the deceased. In this matter, Chilekwa was jointly charged with former PF deputy secretary general Mumbi Phiri, who was discharged after the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) entered a nolle prosequi in her favour on Wednesday.
