DIRECTOR of Public Prosecutions Gilbert Phiri yesterday apologised to the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court over his State advocates’ absence in the Joseph Malanji and Fredson Yamba case at the last sitting. Earlier this week, Magistrate Ireen Wishimanga told Phiri to personally prosecute the matter if the State advocates were busy to handle the case. This was after State Prosecutor Lewis Kandele applied for an adjournment on grounds that two of the prosecutors handling the case were out of jurisdiction, while one was attending to a matter on the Copperbelt.
