THE State has urged the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court to dismiss the application by former deputy Inspector General of Police Charity Katanga for bail pending appeal. Katanga is serving her three-year sentence after she was convicted for being in possession of 10 Higer buses believed to be proceeds of crime, a sentence she has appealed against. When the matter came up for hearing of the bail application before Chief Resident Magistrate Davies Chibwili, Friday, Katanga’s lawyer Isaac Simbeye urged the court to grant his client bail pending her appeal. “We pray that this court grants the applicant bail pending appeal as she is ready to adhere to any conditions the court may attach,” he said.
