DRIZIT Zambia Limited has demanded payment of US$3,487,200 from Sino-Metals Leach Zambia Limited, being amounts allegedly due under a contract for environmental assessment services. At the same time, the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) says it is unable to file its defence in a related lawsuit because it currently has no board. Recently, Drizit Zambia sued Sino-Metals and ZEMA in the Lusaka High Court, seeking over US$3.48 million for environmental assessment services allegedly rendered following the Chambishi tailings dam spill earlier this year. The consultancy firm is also seeking damages for breach of contract and statutory duty, as well as interest and legal costs.
