THE Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has ordered the forfeiture of two helicopters and three properties in Silverest Gardens belonging to former Foreign Affairs minister Joseph Malanji to the state. Meanwhile, the court has also denied bail pending appeal to incarcerated former Secretary to the Treasury, Fredson Yamba, citing among other reasons, his failure to demonstrate the appeal’s prospects of success. Magistrate Ireen Wishimanga recently sentenced Yamba to three years’ imprisonment with hard labour on two counts of wilful failure to comply with laid down procedures. She also sentenced Malanji to four years’ imprisonment with hard labour on seven counts of being in possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime.
