THE State has urged the Lusaka High Court to dismiss former Foreign Affairs minister Joe Malanji’s renewed bail application pending appeal of his four-year prison sentence. Malanji renewed his application for bail in the High Court after the Magistrate’s Court dismissed his earlier application. In September last year, Malanji appealed the four-year sentence handed down by the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court for being in possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime. Meanwhile, in an affidavit opposing bail, the State argued that Malanji has not demonstrated any exceptional circumstances to warrant granting him bail.
