THE Public Accounts Committee yesterday chased away the Ministry of Tourism for failing to explain how 14 title deeds submitted as collateral for loans amounting to K2,229,782 were ‘stolen’ from a safe and couldn’t be found as at August 31, 2022. The latest Auditor General’s report indicated that there was an uncollected Tourism Development Credit Facility amounting to K9,111,901 as at July 31, 2022. Further included in the outstanding amount of K9,111,901 were amounts totaling K4,337,275 owed by 33 beneficiaries, who had never made any payments towards servicing the loans.
