MINISTRY of Health Permanent Secretary for administration Christopher Simoonga says government opted to send cancer patients to India for specialist treatment instead of Tanzania because Indian hospitals gave a better offer. Last year, Health Minister Sylva Masebo announced that patients that required radiotherapy would be evacuated every two months to Ocean Road Cancer Institute in Tanzania until the Cancer Diseases Hospital (CDH) was revamped. She, however, disclosed recently that government had sent 39 cancer patients to India for treatment since December 2023.
