HOME Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu has revealed that the Zambia Police Service recorded a total of 1,002 cases of rape and 4,978 cases of defilement from January 2021 to July 2025. Meanwhile, Mwiimbu says the issuance of digital IDs was deferred to avoid complaints from the opposition and members of the public that the process was being rushed towards the elections, adding that it will be done immediately after the 2026 elections.
