WHAT started as a happy New Year’s eve countdown for patrons at Eden Queen bar and restaurant, a popular local spot in Lusaka’s Chalala area, turned into a scene of panic yesterday. Several individuals sustained injuries after unidentified people threw a teargas canister into the packed establishment during the celebrations, causing a stampede that left some patrons choking while others collapsed. The incident occurred during the early hours of January 1, 2026, at Eden Queen Car Wash along Lilayi Road, a venue that had attracted a large crowd of revellers looking forward to ushering in the New Year. Witnesses took to social media to narrate the ordeal, with some thanking God for saving their lives, saying they could have died....
