MINISTER of Mines and Minerals Development Paul Kabuswe has attributed recent mining fatalities at Mopani Copper Mines in Kitwe and Mufulira to operational and systemic deficiencies. Kabuswe says the Minerals Regulation Commission has implemented urgent measures, including suspending operations at Mopani Copper Mine sites for investigations and revoking the appointments of key mining officials for misconduct. Last week, Mopani Copper Mines Plc suspended all underground mining operations being conducted by Reliant Mining in Kitwe and Mufulira following two fatal accidents in less than three weeks.
