THE Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) says it is mandatory for all hospitals to operate with a license, including those being constructed using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF). HPCZ Deputy Registrar for Technical Services Dr Muhumpu Kafwamfwa has noted that it is sometimes surprising to see a hospital being opened, without the knowledge of the Council. Speaking during the launch of the revised National Health Care Standards 2026, alongside six subsidiary guidelines, Dr Kafwamfwa called on provincial health directors to ensure that all hospitals were licensed before construction. “Coming to licensing, this is mandatory.
