THE Immigration Department last year raised over K1.6 billion in revenue, from K1.1 billion in 2024, Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu has revealed. Meanwhile, Mwiimbu has urged the Immigration Department to avoid over-detention of illegal immigrants, stressing that prolonged detention violates human rights. And Immigration Department Director General Dr Japhet Lishomwa says 12,576 illegal immigrants, including illegal miners, were detained in 2025, compared to 10,330 in 2024.
