HEALTH Minister Dr Alex Katakwe has revealed that non-communicable diseases account for about one-third of all deaths in Zambia. Speaking at the 2026 STEPwise Survey launch, Tuesday, Dr Katakwe said routine health data showed that stroke, heart conditions, diabetes and hypertension were recorded as leading causes of death attributable to non-communicable diseases. “My Ministry is pleased to announce the commencement of the 2026 Zambia STEPwise Survey, a nationwide step to assess the burden of non-communicable diseases and their key risk factors across our country.
