THE Millers Association of Zambia has urged government to implement regulations on maize exports. Recently Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa warned that about 1.2 million people risk facing severe food shortages from October to March 2027. Meanwhile the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) signed a contract with Kenya’s Baita Trading Company Limited for the export of 540,000 metric tonnes of maize. Speaking in an interview Monday, MAZ president Andrew Chintala said the report by Kangwa was an indication that there is need to trade cautiously due to the projected El Niño.
