DIRECTOR of Veterinary Services Dr Charles Maseka says despite the reported wildlife mortalities in some national parks, there is no anthrax in livestock. However, Assistant Director in-charge of Field Services Dr Fusya Goma, has warned of a likely increase in anthrax cases in livestock as a result of the expected El Niño. Last week, the National Disaster Risk Management Division (DRMD) announced an outbreak of suspected anthrax in Muchinga Province DRMD Senior Communications Officer Mathews Musukwa said 40 animals have reportedly died, while 11 people were suspected to have been affected in Mpika, Lavushimanda and Shiwang’andu districts.
