PRINCE Akashambatwa Mbikusita Lewanika has appealed to African Presidents to facilitate national dialogue in Zambia, saying people facing treason charges whom he describes as “political prisoners” must be released for meaningful dialogue to take place. Lewanika, who is Chairperson of the Council of Elders for Ethical Leadership, Democracy and Development (CEELDD), says African leaders should go beyond the reconciliation statements made during President Hakainde Hichilema’s inauguration and actively help bring Zambians together for dialogue. The Council of Elders is a grouping of veteran politicians and civic leaders formed in March 2026 and led by Lewanika. It positions itself as a moral voice for reconciliation and dialogue.
