DIRECTOR of Public Prosecution Gilbert Phiri has attributed delays in prosecuting cases to investigations. Phiri explains that some complicated cases like treason take time due to investigations, citing the 1985 Shamwana case which he said took 11 months to commence. A number of stakeholders including the church and international bodies have called for the speedy trial of NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile, his running mate Makebi Zulu and 16 others who were arrested and charged with treason in August.
