RIGHT now, people are talking about hunger. Parents and heads of households are failing to provide for their families and loved ones because the staple food has become unaffordable. Interestingly, the ruling party finds it fashionable to increase the floor price for maize in order to impress the farmer. But everybody knows that this is nothing more than a short-lived cosmetic solution. It’s like treating the symptoms, leaving the actual disease. Our leaders should not be looking at the plight of the farmer after harvesting time because while this may appear to be good for the farmer, it will mean the millers will increase their prices and this will worsen the problem of food affordability.
