IN THE last few days, those who walk the corridors of power have been whispering to us that the presidency is contemplating a move to suspend elections owing to the violent campaigns that have been witnessed in some selected towns across the country. We have been given to understand that when the President said: “If the police and the Electoral Commission of Zambia fail to contain the situation, I have powers to invoke certain provisions of the Constitution”, he meant simply suspending the elections until a later date.
