CHINA has once again demonstrated why it is rightly called a “true all-weather friend” of Zambia. From the Kariba North Bank expansion project, Kafue Gorge power station to mining investments, and massive infrastructure projects like roads and airports, the hand of Beijing has visibly altered the face of our country. The newly signed US$1.4 billion agreement to revitalise the Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) is therefore no surprise; it is yet another testament to China’s enduring partnership with Zambia and Tanzania. Despite the many exploitative and law violation incidents linked to bad actors that have tended to dent the good bilateral relations, we must commend the Chinese government and its people for this gesture.
