THE reported assault on Power FM news editor Alfonso Kasongo by UPND cadres is barbaric, reckless and deeply disappointing. This year, Zambia hosts the global conference for the World Press Freedom Day. At a time when the country should be preparing to mark this special day with delegates drawn from all over the world, we cannot afford to be making fresh records of attacks on our journalists. It’s simply foolish. Ahead of May 3, this is the kind of ugly behaviour that drags Zambia backwards. There can be no justification, no excuse and no clever political explanation for attacking a journalist who is simply doing his job. A journalist is not an enemy combatant. A camera is not a weapon....
