THE call by the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) for the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to engage in meaningful consultations before implementing a presidential campaign timetable could not have come at a better time than now when we are witnessing strange happenings in the political arena. In fact, if there is one lesson our country should have learnt from previous elections, it is that credibility in electoral management is not achieved through directives and announcements. It is achieved through transparency, inclusiveness and stakeholder confidence. We therefore agree with LAZ that ECZ must ensure that there is thorough consultation before coming up with any campaign management framework. Such consultation is not merely a procedural requirement.
