I AM not aware that Vice-President Inonge Wina apologized for police brutality on Komboni Radio director Lesa Kasoma, a criminal investigations officer has told the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court.
Testifying before magistrate Felix Kaoma today, Eugine Mweemba, who is based at Kabwata Police Station, claimed he was unaware that Lesa was assaulted by police.
“I am not aware that the issue went to Parliament and that the Vice-President apologised. I am also not aware that police officers denied her a medical report,” Mweemba said during cross-examination.
Mweemba told the court that he had arrested and charged Lesa with ‘assault of a police officer’, based on complainant Simon Chisanga’s statement.
He claimed that when he charged Lesa, she was in good condition and did not complain of being assaulted.
Mweemba further told the court that he was not aware other police officers took Lesa to University Teaching Hospital when her condition worsened before he formally charged her.
In this matter, Lesa is accused of having assaulted a police officer, Simon Chisanga, on October 5, 2016.
Trial continues on February 7.
