THE Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has fined 11 bus drivers operating at Kulima Tower Bus Station, Kabulonga route, K18 each for disorderly conduct, failure to pay, they will serve 30 days simple imprisonment.
Chanda Mbosha and 10 others were charged with idle and disorderly persons.
Other accused persons are; Stanley Mbulu, Cornelius Chiluba, Gilbert Phiri, Boyd Mulowa, Lovermore Ngwira, Peter Mulenga, Abel Ndhlovu, John Mwanza and Lamell Silungwe.
The 11 appeared before Lusaka magistrate Albert Mwaba, where they admitted the charge.
Facts in this matter were that on April 7, 2022, police officers from Kulima Tower Police post received a report from Steven Mwale that some drivers who commute via the Kabulonga route were conducting themselves in an idle and disorderly manner.
Police moved in to investigate the matter and investigations revealed that rebellious drivers had mobilised themselves and refused to cooperate with other drivers.
They were alleged to have refused to pay the prescribed K50 loading fee, instead, they began to pay a K5.
They were further accused of grabbing the book used to control the loading turns, against the Local Authority requirements.
Police apprehended the 11 and interviewed them in connection with the alleged conduct but they failed to give a satisfactory answer.
They were later charged and taken to court where they pleaded guilty.
Magistrate Mwaba on Tuesday fined them 60 penalty units, which is equivalent to K18.
