Questions need to be asked about internal factors that are creating this fuel price crisis. As we stated yesterday, earlier this year, the government announced that it would allow all private Oil Marketing Companies to use the TAZAMA Oil Pipeline in order. This decision was arrived at on the basis that there would be more competition among oil suppliers and this would in turn increase fuel imports and reduce prices. While they maintain that oil prices are determined by the international market, somehow it was agreed among government technocrats that this move was going to reduce prices of the commodity in Zambia.
